Osteria Pastella – Florence, Italy

When you think of Florence, Italy, your mind probably drifts to Renaissance art, romantic architecture, and historic cathedrals. But if you ask me what truly left a mark on my heart—and taste buds—it’s the food. And at the top of that list? Osteria Pastella.
Tucked near Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, Osteria Pastella is one of those hidden gem restaurants in Florence that you don’t just stumble upon—you remember forever.
Osteria Pastella was founded in 2015 by a group of Tuscan food enthusiasts who wanted to bring back the traditional flair of handmade pasta and rustic Florentine hospitality. Their vision was simple: serve high-quality, locally sourced ingredients with recipes rooted in Tuscan heritage—while adding just a touch of modern elegance.
Over the years, it’s quietly gained a loyal following thanks to its dedication to fresh pasta made daily on-site, charming ambiance, and exceptional service. Today, Osteria Pastella is known not only for its famous tableside truffle tagliolini but also for offering one of the most memorable dining experiences in Florence.
A Taste of Florence: Where to Eat in Florence, Italy
If you’re wondering where to eat in Florence, Italy, you’re not alone. The city is packed with options—from busy tourist spots to quiet, family-run trattorias. But finding something authentic can be tricky. That’s what makes Osteria Pastella so special.
Despite being just a short walk from Florence’s city center, it feels like a local secret. I first heard about it through word-of-mouth, which is often how the best restaurants in Florence, Italy are discovered—not from flashy billboards or guidebooks, but from conversations between food-loving travelers. Also, my highschool friend who has traveled to Florence told me that this is the best spot to enjoy cheese wheel pasta. It’s always good to trust world of mouth, especially from a close friend who has a good taste.
What’s on the Menu? Things I tried from a list of Florence cuisine
Osteria Pastella’s Firenze Italy food menu is a love letter to Tuscan cuisine. The star of the show? Their fresh pasta—especially the handmade tagliolini, which is prepared tableside with rich, creamy truffle sauce. Watching it come together right in front of you is like dinner and a show all in one. This is the cheese wheel what I refered it earlier.
Menu we tried in here:

Caprese ai Colori Pomodoro Mozzarela di Bufala Vinegratte, Olive Esicatte e Sesamo (Caprese Ai Colori Pomodoro Mozzarella di Bufala Vinaigrette, Olive Eschicate, Sesame)
Pomodoro, Mozzarella di Bufala, Vinaigrette, Olive Esiccate e Sesamo — is a fresh and colorful twist on the classic Caprese salad. Juicy, ripe tomatoes are paired with creamy Mozzarella di Bufala, then drizzled with a light vinaigrette that enhances every bite. Sun-dried olives add a deep, savory contrast, while a sprinkle of sesame brings a subtle nuttiness and crunch. It’s a beautifully balanced starter that’s as vibrant on the plate as it is on the palate.

Tagiliatelle flambe al Taruffo fresco in crosta di Grana Padano(Tagliatelle flambe with fresh truffle in a Grana Padano crust)
The pasta is perfectly al dente, then tossed in a molten wheel of Grana Padano with a drizzle of olive oil, creating a rich, velvety coating. Simple yet indulgent, it’s finished with a generous shaving of aromatic black truffle. Every bite is perfectly seasoned, earthy, and deeply satisfying — a must-try for any truffle lover visiting Florence.

Tartta Con Crema al Limone, fruta di stagione(Cake with lemon cream, seasonal fruit)
Pair your meal with a glass of Chianti or Brunello and you’ve got the best Firenze Italy food experience you could dream of. (You won’t go wrong with any wine, trust me.)
While Osteria Pastella hasn’t made it to the Best Restaurants in Florence, Italy New York Times list (yet!), it absolutely holds its own among the culinary elite. Sometimes the true treasures are the ones still waiting to be discovered—and that’s exactly what makes it special.
A Chilly Night, a Warm Welcome- Hospitality matters.
I visited Osteria Pastella on a frosty evening in Florence. We arrived shortly after it opened, only to find the first seating completely full. But instead of turning us away, the staff offered us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine while we waited outside. That small gesture made all the difference—it warmed us up and set the tone for an unforgettable night. We waited under negative degree of weather, but our 60 min wait was worth it. It became unforgettable memory from Florence.
While waiting in line, we struck up a conversation with a couple from our hometown in the U.S.—proving once again that food brings people together in the most unexpected ways.

While Osteria Pastella is a sit-down dream, don’t skip out on street food in Florence either. Grab a lampredotto (a local tripe sandwich) from a street vendor or enjoy a slice of schiacciata stuffed with prosciutto. It’s the perfect way to experience Florence’s flavors on the go.
